Happy New Year!

The children, staff and volunteers at Emmanuel Center would like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much for your support in 2009 and wish you a wonderful 2010.

2009 was a very good year at Emmanuel Center. The home for former street kids continued to provide nutritious meals, education and counselling to over 40 children. We had to move to another part of Ngong (still on the outskirts of Nairobi), but the new home is big and spacious. The center was even profiled on the national news. If you haven’t watched the clip yet check it out at – www.emmanuelcenter.com

The drop-in center, which started in 2008, became an established community entity. It offered computer training to over 200 youth, plus provided the community with a library, and impoverished children with lunch five days a week. And it got the best Christmas present ever – a donation of another 12 computers from Afretech Aid Society. Now it can improve and increase the computer courses it offers to out of school youth!

Emmanuel Center was once again lucky to host numerous international volunteers. These dedicated individuals and groups taught the children everything from yoga to bracelet-making. They shared their friendship and their time – for which we are truly grateful!

As 2010 starts we’ve received the marks of the four children at Emmanuel Center who wrote their primary school exam. All did very well, which means we are now busy enrolling them in secondary schools. Meanwhile we are waiting for the final results of two boys who wrote their secondary school exams – both are bright, and one plans to be a pilot and the other one wants to be a doctor, so we hope that once their results are in we can
assist them in achieving these dreams. They have certainly come a long way from the streets of Nairobi.

Thank you once again for your support. We couldn’t do the work we do without you.

Best wishes for 2010!

Director
