Emmanuel Boys Rescue CenterEmmanuel Center believes that Every Street Kid Deserves a Chance. Unfortunately, many of the 250,000 street children in Kenya are living in poverty, danger and exploitation. Emmanuel Center gives such children a chance at peace by providing a home, education, healthcare, outreach services and much more. Emmanuel Center has:
Street Stories: Daniel Emmanuel Center was founded in 2000 by Daniel Nduati. Daniel is from the Dagoretti community, near where the center is located. Due to family poverty, Daniel lived on the streets for four years. He slept in ditches, became addicted to sniffing glue, and even began to sell drugs. When he was 18, Daniel felt called to change his life and help others. He sought out help and enrolled in college. He began Emmanuel Center as a drop-in facility to provide meals, counselling and other activities for street children. He found sponsors to buy school uniforms for children and worked with local organizations to connect street kids with other services. In 2002, Emmanuel Center secured enough funding to rent a house large enough to accommodate 40 children. In 2006 the center moved again to a better facility. The programs developed from providing basic needs, to providing eduction, outreach, drug rehabilitation and more. Daniel continues to dream big for the street children in Kenya. He hopes that one day Emmanuel Center will be able to build own it's own facility, which will accommodate more children, and also run a number of drop-in centers in needy neighborhoods. |
